On his way back from a nearby convenience store, Subaru Natsuki is suddenly stranded in a foreign city. He finds himself surrounded by unfamiliar faces speaking a foreign tongue, realizing he has been transported to an entirely different world. Unfortunately, the shopkeeper throws him out for being insolvent, leaving him hopeless and immediately encircled by a gang of ruffians. However, just when he believes there is no escape, a mysterious young lady named Satella comes to his aid. She's on the hunt for a burglar that Subaru had seen earlier. After Satella wards off the aggressors, Subaru pledges to help her in her quest to capture the thief. After a few bizarre events, the pair ends up in an underground cellar where stolen goods are kept. When they infiltrate the cellar, they are unexpectedly attacked by a shadowy assailant resulting in both of them receiving fatal injuries. Subaru awakens to find himself transported back in time to the morning of that same day and begins a complex cycle where he relives past experiences.
